Quinn out, McLellan in

2024-12-27

DALLAS (AP) The underachieving Dallas Stars have fired head coach David Quinn and replaced him with Todd McLellan.

Team owner Gary Brown told the press gathered at American Airlines Center, "We've only scored 66 goals in 33 games, near the bottom of the league.  It comes at a lousy time, only two days after Christmas, but there wasn't much choice.  David Quinn lost control of the room and the players weren't responding.  Putting it mildly, they quit on their coach.  Todd McLellan is a veteran coach with a winning background so hopefully he can light a fire under their sorry asses."

Brown added, "If we have to do a rebuild, we will.  That applies to our best players.  No one should feel safe."

Terms of McLellan's contract have not been released.  The new coach will meet with his team for the first time before they play on the road against the Minnesota Wild.
