Bowness out, Quinn in

2023-01-04

DALLAS (AP) Yet another loss in a frustrating season convinced Dallas Stars team owner Gary Brown that a change in his coaching staff was in order.

Brown fired original Dallas head coach Rick Bowness as the team languished near the bottom of the standings with a disappointing 14-21-5 record.

Brown in turn has hired David Quinn as the new coach.  "Nothing against Rick Bowness, who led us into the playoffs the previous two seasons.  But this year it seems as though everything is off--the goaltending, the defense, the offense, and the special teams.  They can't win at home, they can win on the road, they can't even score in bed!  Putting it mildly, this team sucks.  A change is in order, and as the saying goes, you can't fire the team, but you can replace the coaching staff," Brown told reporters gathered outside his office in the American Airlines Center.

"Aside from Roope Hintz, Jason Robertson, Miro Heiskanen, and Jake Oettinger, every roster player is available for trade.  As for David Quinn, we think he can initiate a better system to score more goals than his predecessor.  Time will tell," Brown said.

Terms of Quinn's contract were not disclosed.
